The Unit with crazy ladders

The Unit with the lion's head

Intro

In postindustrial boroughs of capitals on the outskirts and edges of the cities in forgotten, dilapidated factories live the artists of our era.
Illegal arts venues - empty factories, warehouses and parcel depots  - all those places have something in common. They are invaded and reclaimed by artists, designers and film-makers who can't afford the city's studio rents.

Hackney Wick and Fish Island in East London are one of those places.

I wrote my Fda Interior and spatial design thesis analyzing bohemian lifestyle of people living in this area.
I focused on various forms of spatial activism or rather proactive strategies present in the area in different scales and aspects. From organizing their community life and general living conditions through their artistic and non-artistic actions altogether residents of HW & FI create unique circumstances of living in the shadow of Olympic developments.

Now my housemate Richard  - RCA MA architecture student - develops the subject matter of live/work spaces examining art studios on Fish Island. I'm helping him doing the photographic documentation.

In this blog I will  publish some of the pictures I have been taking since the beginning of march 2012 and throughout the project.
